The Sacrifice – history
I have to give my closest friend the credit for this novel.
It was during our weekly phone call when, as it so often does, our conversation turned to the books we were currently reading. I was reading a vampire story at the time, and she was reading about a woman dying of a fatal disease. It occurred to me then, what would happen if a vampire were to accidentally drink infected blood? And so Sacrifice was born.
I knew three things straight off. I didn’t want to write another vampire/human romance. They had been done by other authors and done well. I wanted my vampire’s cure to be the blood of someone pure of heart and given in the nature of a sacrifice, and, unlike most vampire stories, my vampire would be obnoxious. After all, what would be the point of a girl sacrificing herself for someone nice? She’d be no different than the rest of us then. We would all try to save someone we loved.
Writing my vampire was a challenge, but I think I can honestly say I’ve never had so much fun. As for how it ends, well, you’ll have to read the book, won’t you.
